After its huge success in 2017, the colourful Legends of Lion Dance exhibition will return to the Bibliotheek Permeke (a public library) in Antwerp in February 2018, with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels. Entry is free.
Organiser Tofoe Asian Events, a non-profit-making organisation created by Hong Kong second-generation community members in Antwerp, has secured a larger space at the Bibliotheek Permeke this year so the exhibition will be bigger than in 2017.
Around 15 unique lion heads made and embroidered in Hong Kong will be on show. Visitors will learn how lion heads are made and how this traditional craft has been passed down generations of artisans in Hong Kong, as well as the legends and stories associated with the lion dance and with Chinese New Year. A great introduction to the Chinese Year of the Dog, which starts on 16 February 2018 !
Bibliotheek Permeke will provide guided visits for schools and individuals. On some days there will be live lion dances. Please visit the website of Bibliotheek Permeke for more information.
