The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So is visiting Schiphol, The Hague and Paris on 6-8 June.
Mr So began his visit to the Netherlands on 6 June by speaking at a lunch meeting with Dutch business leaders in Schiphol, at which he noted that Hong Kong and the Netherlands have strong and long-established ties.
"The Netherlands is the third largest trading partner of Hong Kong among all European Union member states. The bilateral merchandise trade between Hong Kong and the Netherlands has enjoyed promising annual growth over the past five years. In 2016, the bilateral merchandise trade between the two places was valued at more than EUR 9.2 billion. I am happy to note that the volume continued to expand in the first quarter of 2017, as compared with the same quarter of 2016," Mr So said.
Mr So added that Hong Kong, as a key link and "super-connector" for the Belt and Road Initiative, is also ready to work with and assist Dutch companies in making the best of these golden opportunities.
After the lunch meeting, Mr So moved on to The Hague to call on the Mayor, Ms Pauline Krikke.
Mr So will then travel to Paris to attend the OECD MCM's Trade and Investment Session titled 'International Trade and Investment for the Benefit of all'; on 8 June. He will join the participating ministers to discuss the importance of open markets and how the international rules on trade and investment can promote global economic growth and productivity, support a more inclusive agenda and prompt businesses to adhere to high labour, ethical and environmental standards.
On the margins of the OECD MCM, Mr So will attend an informal gathering of World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Ministers. The meeting will discuss various issues including the role for the WTO in advancing trade and global growth, and the achievements to be obtained at the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference in Argentina at the end of this year. He will also take the opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting with his Dutch counterparts and attend the OECD MCM dinner hosted by the Government of Denmark.
